Anilox rollers used in these presses are often specified with high cell counts (LPI) to achieve the resolution required for detailed label artwork.
Frequent job changes mean anilox rollers on label presses are cleaned often, sometimes between every job. Over time, repeated cleaning cycles combined with a wide variety of inks and coatings can contribute to gradual cell contamination if not addressed thoroughly. Because label anilox rollers are fine-cell by design, contamination that would be minor on a coarser roller can have a more noticeable effect on ink laydown and barcode readability.
